I’m a mum of two. I love Mother’s Day because my children take great delight in spoiling me. They are 7 and 8 and over the years I have received a myriad of wonderful gifts from them ranging from lavender talcum powder to foot massages, jam sandwiches infront of the telly, handmade cards and a piece of balsa wood with the words “I love you” on it. More than anything in the world my best Mother’s Day gift is the fact that I am a mum. And I bet that that’s my mums favourtie part too. This year, like every year for a long time in fact, I am sending my mum and my grandma a Photogram filled with photos of the three of us. My mum and gran have never tired of them. Ethical and eco-sensitive production of beautiful and useful items has been my number one philosophy since I started Laikonik. I will be exhibiting some of my products alongside the NSW Industrial Hemp Association, a group and an industry I am most passionate about.

Once I get in there it’s experiment after experiment, colour after colour and never ending thoughts that start with “What if I did…” I love having an entire weekend or several days in the week that I can dedicate to time spent at the printing table.

More photos from my photoshot at Claudias house. This collection is very neutral. My favourite is the set of browns. The cushions and the day bed on the veranda are covered in the printed fabrics only temporarily, I did this to show how these prints could potentialy be used.

Oh what a wonderful time I had a couple of weeks ago not only printing these beauties but then photographing them at my friend Claudias house. Her home in the Sydney suburb of Killara is so beautiful, inside and out. I especially loved the garden and the tiny chairs which I used to drape my fabrics over. And Claudia was an amazing assistant for the entire day. DANKE SCHON!

So here is a mix of reclaimed fabrics as well as newly acquired pieces of Hemp and Hemp blends.

Weekend printing in the studio

Recently I did a whole batch of various prints in my studio. I used both hemp textiles as well as a whole lot of recycled fabrics I collect. The following images are of both reclaimed table cloths, or hemp/organic cotton which I use for the Once-A-Year Books and the Photogram covers. I really enjoyed this unplanned and unstructured printing day without any controlled direction or expected outcome.

I’ve just created these new designs for the much loved Photograms. They now come in five gorgeous colours. All silk-screen printed onto a fine hemp/organic cotton textile. The Photograms make an ideal gift for someone dear. All you do is stick in four of your favourite photos and write a brief letter on the back in the space provided. The Photogram comes with a postal wrapper which you just address and send away. Your recipient can keep the Photogram stored flat or as a standing frame. Everyone loves it! Decorating your own wrapping paper…

Here is a step by step of how I decorated the wrapping paper for Christmas this year. It was simple but a bit time consuming. I think one average sized gift (like the one with the Christmas tree drawing on it, took me about 20 minutes.
